YAMAHA FG-201B

This is a Yamaha folk guitar given to me by my cousin about 20 years ago.
Before I uploaded this guitar, I did a little search on the Internet.
According to the website of the manufacturer, Yamaha, it was manufactured between 1978 and 1980. I was a little surprised to find out that it is an old guitar.
When I looked at the specifications, I found that the materials used were names I had never heard of before, as I am not very familiar with acoustic guitars.
What is palisandre?
I searched further and found out that it is a type of rosewood. I didn't know it was from Africa.
I also came across the word "neck" in my research, and wondered what it meant. It seems to be used as a unit of measurement when counting guitars. I didn't know this either.
I wonder if it is commonly used in the world of classical guitars.
